Storage Tips - Week 4

Beets (with greens)

Trim the greens off the beet root. Submerge in a cold water bath for 2-3 minutes. Store in plastic bag with perforations or leave the bag open. Refrigerate in your fridge's chiller drawer. Eat within one or two days. With the beet roots, they can stay loose in the chiller drawer. Should keep for 1-2 weeks.

Kale - Red Russian variety

Submerge in cold water bath for a minute or two. Store in plastic bag with perforations or leave the bag open. Refrigerate in your fridge's chiller drawer. This kale variety is one of the more delicate kale varieties - use within a week.

Lettuce - Head lettuce

Beautiful stuff! Submerge in cold water bath and shake out to dry. Do not peel off leaves until you are ready to eat - aka, keep the head whole until ready to eat. When the leaves are broken off, it causes a fissure (like a wound) on the leaf stem and will start to decompose more readily. When you do start to break off the leaves for your salad, place any leftover leaves in a plastic bag. Store in chiller drawer of your fridge.

Sweet Potatoes

Keep in fridge if wet. If dry, keep on your countertop in a cool dry spot out of direct sunlight.

Shallots

Keep on your countertop in a cool dry spot out of direct sunlight.

Turnips

Keep in chiller drawer of your fridge. Eat within the next 1-2 weeks.
